JOB DESCRIPTION

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and dedicated individual to join Southampton City Council as a Flood Risk and Drainage Officer.

Based within the Flood Risk Management Team you will support the delivery of the Council’s statutory duties and responsibilities as a Lead Local Flood Authority assigned under the Flood and Water Management Act 2010, and will act as the Council’s professional and technical advisor on matters relating to surface water flood risk and sustainable drainage. You will  work on a variety of activities including assessing and providing comments on sustainable drainage strategies as part of the planning and development process, and developing flood risk management strategies and policy surrounding surface water management, as well as developing and delivering flood risk management schemes.

You must be qualified to a postgraduate level (or equivalent) within an appropriate discipline, including civil engineering, and have experience of sustainable drainage design. You must have a good understanding of the Flood and Water Management Act 2010 and requirements of the National Planning Policy Framework and possess good communication skills as you will be working with a range of stakeholders with varying levels of technical knowledge.
