Job Description

ANNUAL SALARY: £22,000 to £26,000 PLUS ATTRACTIVE BENEFITS PACKAGE

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Sustainable Development Officer to join the Sustainable Development Team at the Water Management Alliance (WMA) Group of Internal Drainage Boards (IDBs).

The Water Management Alliance is a group of like-minded Internal Drainage Boards (“IDBs”) who are responsible for controlling water levels across some 150,000 hectares of Eastern England, Although the entire area is at considerable theoretical risk of flooding, the actual risk is substantially reduced by the work that we do.

The Sustainable Development Team within the Water Management Alliance engages with the planning process and uses each Board’s permissive powers to regulate third party works (under the Land Drainage Act 1991 and the Board’s Byelaws) to meet the team’s key purpose of ensuring that development is carried out sustainably and will not increase flood risk within the Internal Drainage District.

As our Sustainable Development Officer (Consenting) you will be supporting the WMA Group’s Senior Sustainable Development Officer for Consenting by assisting with the WMA’s regulation of third party works within the WMA’s area, to ensure these works will not increase flood risk.

While experience working within the water, civil engineering or flood risk management industries would be desirable, we recognise that this role may attract candidates from across a number of disciplines.

The appointment offers a competitive salary depending on qualifications and experience, together with access to BUPA and the Local Government Pension Scheme, and the opportunity to progress as the business develops. Applications from those looking to work part-time will also be considered.

For more information about the WMA and this position please see the job description and person specification below. Please also feel free to contact Cathryn Brady (Sustainable Development Manager) on 01553 819600 with any questions regarding the opportunity.
