Job Description

Salary: £31,650 - £44,720 depending on experience, + Pension + Bonus + 25 days holiday plus Bank Holidays

Location: Buttershaw, Bradford with home working currently due to Covid 19. 

Please note that this role is also available to Graduates at entry level, who can demonstrate Modelling as part of their degree programme.

There is flexibility for this role to be based from home with 1 day per week needed at our offices in Bradford for continuity and team blend purposes. Some travel to other Yorkshire Water sites will also be needed on occasion, therefore a full Driving Licence is needed for this role

Purpose of the role

Yorkshire Water are currently recruiting for a Hydraulic Modeller who will support the delivery of clean water hydraulic models as well as the development and promotion of our operational and strategic outcomes, which hydraulic modelling can support across the business. In addition, you will support Capital Delivery, Developer Services, Innovation, route cause analysis and resilience/zonal studies.

Furthermore, you will provide effective technical support to consultants/partners, and act as Yorkshire Water’s “Expert Client” to liaise with and support internal and external customers on issues relating to modelling.

Key Accountabilities

Some of the key responsibilities you will have will include but are not limited to:

 

  • Accountable for reviewing and ensuring technical quality of models that have been delivered by the Modelling framework providers and other Technical Consultants have undertaken.
  • Provide technical challenge to the Technical Consultants where necessary
  • Data extraction from YW systems, manipulation and analysis
  • Liaising with key internal stakeholders
  • Undertaking Model Build and Calibration
  • Undertaking Model Maintenance
  • Understanding of model confidence and associated risks and the ability to convey this information to others, of various technical backgrounds.
  • Undertaking scenario modelling and relaying the information to other areas of the business in an effective way, for operational, planning and strategic areas of the business.
  • Identifying and developing specification enhancements
  • Providing technical advice to Capital Delivery Partners
  • Support to the Senior Modeller
  • Support to Innovation, Network Engineers, Sponsors and Strategy teams
  • Promoting the use of modelling across the company forging strong enterprise with relationships
  • Work to develop strategic improvements in modelling capabilities

Knowledge and Skills Required 

Essential 

  • Technical background in clean water distribution systems,
  • A comprehensive understanding of the current and future pressures that impact on water distribution systems.
  • Experience or an understanding of hydraulic distribution and trunk main modelling, specifically using InfoWorks Pro, Hydraulic Model Manager & Netbase, InfoNet and MapInfo.
  • Significant experience in undertaking model builds, calibrations, model maintenance and scenario modelling.
  • Experience of Network Strategy and high-level planning with model use.
  • Knowledge of pump optimisation, growth impact modelling, pressure management and rezoning.
  • Strong data manipulation and analytical skills
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal, to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Degree level qualified or equivalent experience with significant work-related experience.
  • Driving licence

 

 

 

Desirable

 

  • A knowledge of YW corporate systems would be an advantage.
  • Coaching and mentoring skills in developing less experienced staff in modelling.
  • Understanding of discolouration modelling.
