Assistant Flood Risk Engineer

£25,000 to £30,000 per annum

Based in Leicestershire or Brighton

Permanent position, full time, but will consider part time working

M-EC provides multi-disciplinary engineering and environmental consultancy services for both private and public sector projects including residential, commercial, industrial, retail, leisure, education and healthcare.  We operate on a national basis with offices in Brighton and Leicester.

We are growing our existing team based at our headquarters in Leicestershire but also looking to start a new team in our Brighton office therefore we have the same vacancy at both locations.  We are flexible with regards to working from home.

We are seeking an Assistant Flood Risk Engineer to join us, to provide support on Flood Risk matters.

The main focus of the Flood Risk and Hydrology team is to undertake flood risk assessments, flood modelling and the preparation of drainage strategies supported by our in-house infrastructure design team.

Key role responsibilities:

  • Assist with on-site investigation work such as walkovers and infiltration testing;
  • Hydrological analysis and calculations;
  • Design models, drawings and general correspondence;
  • Drafting technical reports;
  • Co-ordination with other disciplines internally, and client liaison;
  • Working collaboratively with engineers, technicians and other disciplines.

Key skills, experience and attributes required:

  • Educated to a minimum standard of Degree (in Civil engineering or other relevant subject);
  • Experience flood risk/hydrology, preparation of flood risk assessments and drainage strategies;
  • Member of The Institution of Civil Engineers, CIWEM or other relevant professional body.  Working towards a recognised professional qualification;
  • Knowledge of current legislation, drainage design standards and good practice, including Design and Construction Standards 2020, FEH, F&WMA, NHBC Standards, CIRIA 753 (SUDS Manual), NPPF, etc;
  • Experienced in the use of Micro Drainage and flood modelling software packages such as XP Storm, Hec-Ras, Tuflow or Floodmodeller;
  • Proficient in the use of AutoCAD software;
  • Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office;
  • Excellent written skills, particularly report writing and client liaison; and
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to present information in detail to senior management team and staff;
  • Hold full clean driving licence and have own private car with insurance for business use.
