Role Purpose

The National Hydrometry & Telemetry Team sets the strategy, procedures, ways of working and evidence needs, as well as managing & developing systems for hydrometry and telemetry within Wales.

Hydrometric data is the key to understanding hydrological processes, to developing river and water management strategies, water resource management, flood warning and flood forecasting.  You will support the management of NRW’s hydrometric data archive and service, providing support and advice to our operational hydrometry and telemetry teams and customers, ensuring the accuracy, appropriate use and maximising availability of our hydrometric data. You will contribute to projects and to the management of our hydrometric systems.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience.
  • Understanding and demonstrable knowledge of hydrometry, hydrology, or flood risk management.
  • Basic knowledge of the British, European and International standards relating to Hydrometry and its mechanisms, enabling NRW to deliver appropriate hydrometric data.
  • Excellent ICT skills and prior use of the WISKI suite of software.
  • Data management and manipulation skills and experience.
  • Able to work independently with high standards of governance demonstrating personal initiative
