As the Flood Risk and Data Management Team, we are currently leading high profile and exciting flood mitigation schemes such as the Bristol Avon Flood Strategy, Avonmouth and Severnside Ecology Mitigation and Flood Defences Project and Bedminster Green River Restoration. We are also proactively promoting and embedding new ways to manage, analyse and disseminate transport-related data, from traffic collisions to traffic surveys using online GIS platforms and Power-BI amongst others.

 

The role is an exciting and unique opportunity to lead the dynamic teams and drive the Council’s approach and strategy to flood risk and transport data management, meeting the aims and objectives of the One City Plan as well as the climate and ecological emergencies.

 

The role includes a blend of strategic policy making and project delivery. Specific activities include:

  • Oversee the Council’s role as Lead Local Flood Authority, including:
  • The maintenance and refresh of the Bristol Local Flood Risk Management Strategy;
  • Planning consultee on surface water drainage issues ensuring policy and best practice is followed;
  • Provide strategic planning advice including completion and maintenance of the Strategic Flood Risk Assessment;
  • Flood investigations and assisting with emergency response.
  • Take a lead role in flood risk management schemes such as Avonmouth Severnside Ecology Mitigation and Flood Defences project and Bedminster Green River Restoration.
  • Promote and direct partnership working with other Risk Management Authorities such as the Environment Agency and Wessex Water;
  • Oversee the identification, promotion and completion of flood risk and transport data improvement projects using a risk-based and prioritisation approach;
  • Oversee the maintenance and refresh of the Transport Data Vision, which sets the strategy for transport data management;
  • Explore ways to collect, analyse and disseminate data more effectively and efficiently
  • Supervise, motivate and mentor team members including dissemination of resources in the execution of projects across the Council.
  • Manage and monitor budgets, both revenue and capital.
