A rare opportunity within a unitary authority you will lead a small team that works to improve the water environment, investigate flooding, deliver innovative flood risk management projects and advise on surface water management for new developments in one of the fastest growing cities in the Country.

You will line manage the team that primarily acts as statutory consultee to major planning applications, working closely with local planning authorities, developers and consultants to ensure the delivery of high-quality SuDs schemes across Peterborough, so having an excellent working knowledge and experience of the planning process, flood risk legislation and SuDs design and construction is essential.

Furthermore, as part of the combined team you will have the opportunity to work closely with colleagues in the Highway Development section and further your knowledge of highway control from pre-application right through to the implementation on site, as well as influence the methods in which SuDs are applied to these projects.

The ideal candidate would have demonstrable extensive experience in flood risk management and working in a line management position, have excellent communication and interpersonal skills (verbal and written) including the ability to communicate complicated and contentious information with varied audiences including representing the LLFA at planning committees, appeals and inputting into plans on a local and national level. You will have demonstrable experience of coaching and mentoring staff and have a track record when it comes to mentoring junior members of a team.

In return for your commitment, Peterborough City Council offers hybrid working via our agile working policy, an excellent local government pension scheme, a generous annual leave entitlement plus bank holidays, and the opportunity to make a real difference.
