Service Manager - Flood & Water Management

As a Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA), Somerset County Council are responsible for managing the risk of flooding from surface water, groundwater and ordinary watercourses.

Somerset will be disproportionately impacted by the effects of climate change.

Here's what you can expect to be doing

As the Service Manager, you’ll take an instrumental role in developing our service for the future. You’ll:

• Shape the strategic direction of flood and water management
• Commission a new Flood Risk Strategy
• Advise senior officers and elected members on fulfilling our statutory and regulatory responsibilities
• Develop and manage a service that delivers for Somerset residents and plays and integral part in responding to the challenges of climate change
• Oversee delivery of programmes of studies and capital works

A few things about you

You’ll be a good fit for this role if you:

• Are able to co-ordinate and manage workloads
• Can work successfully with Members and Directors on complex issues and the development of strategic direction
• Have a track record of operating corporate projects and providing clear advice on policy options and policy development
• Can develop communicate effectively with stakeholders and the public
• Have sound technical and/or practical knowledge of drainage systems, delivery of capital schemes and flood risk management.

You will need to be educated to degree level in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Science or a similar discipline (or able to demonstrate equivalent and relevant experience in the industry).
