At the Environment Agency there’s so much more to our work than building flood risk management schemes or regulating industry. We strive to ensure that everything we do counts towards a legacy to be proud of – for people, communities, and the environment – for all of us and future generations to enjoy.
This role will see you lead a professional and motivated team, helping develop our organisation’s strategic ambitions. An inspiring mentor for up to 10 project-focused team members, you’ll build and enhance a great working environment and be a key figure within your local leadership group. Focusing on supporting and developing your professionally qualified team, you'll demonstrate excellent behaviours, collaborative working and build a strong network of working relationships inside and outside the organisation. You will have demonstrated strong project management or commercial skills in previous roles and be able to build effective and trusting relationships with delivery partners.
We’ll expect you to champion the entire project delivery process, from strategic planning all the way into implementation, construction, and delivery. Communication and leadership are crucial, building strong collaborative relationships across the Organisation, our partners, and local communities.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
The Team
We are Programme and Contracts Management (PCM), creating a better place through excellence in project and programme management. Our teams provide the Environment Agency with an effective project and programme management service. Our well-qualified staff manage projects throughout their lifecycle to deliver flood risk management, environmental improvements, and shared ownership with local communities.
You will be a passionate leader, with the ability to build a great working environment and bring the best out of collaborative and high performing teams spread across different locations. You will be skilled in developing people, managing performance, delivering through others, building inclusive relationships, and embedding excellence and knowledge sharing.
You will be chartered in a relevant discipline and ideally will have line management experience and knowledge of construction or appraisal. However, it’s the way you inspire people and innovate that will set you apart – along with big-picture thinking that can improve our operations.
