Job Description

Are you experienced in water resources planning and looking for an exciting new challenge?

South West Water provides reliable, efficient and high quality drinking water and waste water services throughout Cornwall, Devon, and parts of Somerset and Dorset. We believe that by investing in the future of our region, we are not only improving the quality of life for today’s residents and visitors but are also taking responsibility for future generations. Our aim is to continually drive up standards, particularly in the areas that matter most to our customers and be amongst the best in the water industry.

We now have an opportunity to join one of the South West's leading employers as a Supply Demand Planning Analyst to join our Water Resources and Water Efficiency team in Exeter.

What will you be doing?

Joining our team, the Supply Demand Planning Analyst will work with other team members to forecast future demand for water over timescales from a few days to several decades into the future. You will improve current understanding of the costs and benefits of demand management options, such as leakage reduction, and water efficiency. You’ll evaluate how such options, alongside resource, production, and distribution ones, can best be used to meet future requirements.

The Supply Demand Planning Analyst will develop South West Water’s capabilities to move from deterministic to risk-based planning methods. This includes the generation of inputs to the planning process that are based on risk and probability, and the use of decision-making methods that reflect the uncertainties in strategic planning. You’ll contribute to the company’s annual reporting of demand-related data by preparing data and documentation and attending audits.

What do you need?

  • Experience of water demand analysis and forecasting
  • Experience of reporting within time and quality constraints
  • Relevant degree, preferably in a numerate discipline such as mathematics, science or engineering
  • Ability to develop strong relationships with stakeholders
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Self-motivated with a willingness to learn
  • Able to communicate complex concepts effectively
  • A willingness to challenge existing methods and processes, to improve existing capabilities
  • Knowledge of data handling tools such as SQL, R, Python, Power BI, or similar would be beneficial
  • Knowledge of Pywr, Miser, Aquator, or similar water resources tools would be advantageous

What can South West Water offer you?

In return for your hard work as our Supply Demand Planning Analyst, we can offer a salary of circa £35,000 per annum, dependent on skills and experience. We also offer a range of excellent benefits, working within a team-orientated and collaborative environment, for a company that strives to be environmentally, socially and economically sustainable.
