Senior Drainage Officer

£42,403 - £46,464 pa (Plus Essential Car User Allowance up to £1,239 pa)


About the role:

Horsham District Council is looking for a Senior Drainage Officer to assist with the challenges posed from increased flooding due to climate change. Based in the recently formed Sustainability and Greenspaces department the post holder will work alongside the Parks and Countryside team undertaking regular inspections of watercourses on Council owned land, specifying remedial measures where there are issues for these and related drainage issues. The role will involve ensure that the Council fulfils its duties in relation to Warnham Mill Reservoir, which is also an important site for nature conservation, requiring careful long term management. A major part of the role is to provide technical drainage advice on planning applications to ensure that development that takes place is built to high environmental standards.

About you:

You will be the go to person for providing technical advice on flooding issues. To succeed as a Senior Drainage Officer you will have in depth knowledge of complex drainage and flood risk, backed by a degree in a related subject and in depth technical knowledge of non-engineering solutions to drainage and flooding issues, such as Natural Flood Management and Sustainable Urban Drainage. You will have excellent communication skills, being able to explain complex issues to a wide range of audiences, as well as building positive relationships with partners within and external to the Council. You will also need to be well organised to manage a number of different projects. The role requires a full driver’s licence.
