We are looking for Senior Environmental Project Managers(SEPM) to join our National Environmental Assessment and Sustainability team(NEAS). 

This advert is for national recruitment. We currently have vacancies in the Eastern and South-East teams. However, applicants successful at interview from any geographical location will be held on our reserve list for the next 6 months and may be offered roles in other teams nationally if vacancies arise.

You will provide environmental advice relating to design, environmental risk and programme management. 

Duties include:

• Advising on the requirement for statutory Environmental Impact Assessment under the appropriate regime.

• Liaising with technical suppliers to agree scope and quality standards.

• Providing environmental advice relating to design and quality, risk and programme management to the technical and consenting package and Delivery Manager.

• Monitor and assesses performance of environmental consultants and provides feedback.

• Support engagement with Statutory Environmental Bodies and other environmental stakeholders.

• Plays an active part in NEAS Principles Network and the NEAS Hub Leadership team, for example through sharing lessons learnt.

One available role is within the River Thames Scheme (RTS), which aims to deliver a suite of flood risk reduction measures combined with a range of environmental enhancements and new public amenities between Egham Hythe in Staines to Teddington in Surrey.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training. Flexible working arrangements will be available.

The team

NEAS manage the environmental assessment of the Environment Agency’s capital projects, strategies and plans, to ensure compliance with environmental legislation and policy. We ensure opportunities to improve the environment for people and wildlife are identified and taken forward.

You will be a member of a dispersed NEAS team comprised of colleagues with professional backgrounds in archaeology and heritage, ecology, environmental assessment, sustainability, carbon and landscape design.

Experience/skills required 

Essential:

·       Educated in environmental science or a related subject at degree level

·       Experience in managing the environmental risk in projects

·       Experience as an environmental adviser within multi-disciplinary project teams

·       Strong communication and influencing skills

·       Experience in mentoring and supporting colleagues

Desirable:

·       Membership of a professional environmental institute

·       Knowledge of flood and coastal risk management

·       Considerable involvement in infrastructure projects
