Project Manager - Clean Water
At Scottish Water, our mission is to safeguard Scotland's most valuable natural resource, water, from the source to your tap. We're the folks responsible for providing Scotland with top-notch water and maintaining our environment around the clock.
We're in the hunt for a dedicated and motivated Project Manager or someone with aspirations to become one, to join our Clean Water - South Regional Hub Team at our Edinburgh office.
In this role within our Regional Hubs, you'll be working on a variety of projects, both new and existing, ensuring they meet the high standards and specifications set by Scottish Water. You'll be covering all phases of the project life cycle, collaborating with internal and external team members to ensure successful project delivery at the highest level.
What you’ll do
You'll be overseeing the delivery of a range of Civil, M&E, and Infrastructure projects, from start to finish. You'll be managing budgets and performance metrics, providing monthly updates on your project portfolio, including out-turn costs, milestones, and resource requirements within our integrated reporting system.
Building strong relationships with key stakeholders in the Regional Hub is a crucial part of this role. You'll be making important decisions and monitoring the performance of delivery partners, especially regarding Health and Safety, project management, and delivery performance. You'll also help with compliance in terms of governance approvals, from making sure we have the appropriate governance approvals, to preparing papers, to making sure we meet Quality and Environmental legislative requirements.
What you’ll need
We're looking for someone with a Degree, HND, HNC, or SVQ 3 (or equivalent) in Engineering, Project Management, or a related field. Water industry experience is a plus, but not a requirement.
Ideally, you will be familiar with statutory Construction Health, Safety and Environment regulations (including CDM) and have an understanding of the application of Engineering Forms of contract (including NEC4). However, we will be providing training and development in these areas. A general understanding of MS Office applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook and email correspondence systems would be beneficial.
Communication is key. You will need to be a strong communicator who can work with stakeholders to successfully plan and hit performance milestones.
You’ll sometimes be out visiting project sites, so it’s important that you have a full UK-issued driving license.
Looking out for you
While the work we do is important, we know it’s not the only thing that matters. That’s why we make sure you have everything you need to find a good work-life balance.
You’ll get plenty of time to recharge with 38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays). And you can even buy five more if you need a little extra time. You can also take paid time off to volunteer in your community.
When it comes to major life events we have family-friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave. And for the everyday? We embrace flexible working.
For your future, there’s our pension (the ‘know-what-you’ll-get-when-you-retire’ kind), as well as life assurance.
As for some nice extras? You can expect an annual company bonus. Not to mention access to SW Splash – handy rewards that can save you money on holidays, bills, and shopping.
The not-so-small print
This role will be a Grade 7. If you’re new to Scottish Water, you’ll join us on a salary between £41,000 - £51,970, depending on your skills and experience. Performance-driven pay progression will then allow you to move through the range to the maximum salary.
The South Hub team covers Dumfries & Galloway, Scottish Borders, Lothians and North Lanarkshire, so this role is based in Edinburgh. We operate a hybrid working model, so you can expect to spend some days at home, some days in the office and occasional days out on site visits. You could be based in anywhere in Scotland, and we are looking for commitment to at least 1 day per week in our Fairmilehead office.
If you’re interested in this role – or know someone else who might be - we’ll be accepting applications until midnight on 14th October 2024.
Job offers at Scottish Water are conditional, and will be confirmed on completion of our pre-employment screening, e.g. referencing, criminal record checks, license checks, etc. Screening is conducted on our behalf by a third party, and must be completed before your start date. Don’t worry - we’ll only start these checks once you’ve accepted an offer.
A few final things worth knowing…
Research shows that some people avoid applying for jobs unless they can meet every single criteria. If you’re interested in this job, but don’t tick all the boxes, apply anyway! We hardly ever hire people who can do every part of a job from Day One. Everyone has a learning curve. So don’t rule yourself out!
Let us know if there are any changes we can make to our recruitment process to help you perform at your best. Lots of our people have disabilities or neurodiverse conditions (including some of our recruiters!). We're also aware that some people might be experiencing temporary challenges because of life events, like menopause. We’re very used to making adjustments, so please don’t be afraid to ask.
As part of our commitment to developing a flourishing Scotland, it’s important that all our employees are Scottish taxpayers. If you join us, your home address will need to be in Scotland. If you don’t already live here, you'll need to commit to moving here within your first three months.
Finally (finally!), candidates who haven’t submitted an application in the last 12 months will have their records removed from our recruitment database. You won’t need to do anything. Your data will be automatically deleted.
