  A bit about us Somerset County Council are a Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA) as defined by the Flood and Water Management Act 2010 and the Flood Risk Regulations 2009. We are responsible for local flood risks, involving flooding from surface water, ‘ordinary watercourses’, groundwater, canals, lakes and small reservoirs. We have several statutory functions, but we also work to develop partnerships and ensure effective working between authorities that have control over flood risk in Somerset. We are entering an exciting time as an authority, working collaboratively with our five district authorities to publish the Somerset Climate Emergency Strategy. We are due to comprehensively update our Local Flood Risk Management Strategy in 2021, to align with the Environment Agency’s ambitious National FCERM strategy, as well as support the delivery of the water workstream of the Somerset Climate Emergency Strategy.
