Salary: Up to £50,480 (dependent on experience and qualifications) plus Market Supplement

About the role

As our engineer representative, your priority will be the upgrading of the 73 bus shelters in the borough that provide an important and significant income for the council.  

In this varied role, your wider responsibilities will include the management of the borough’s inspections and maintenance programme of roads, bridges and street furniture, as well as providing technical input to planning applications on flood risk.

You will also assist in the management of the borough’s Minor Engineering and Construction Works Term Contract, reviewing planning applications ensuring appropriate flood risk management measures are incorporated on proposed development and responding to consultations in a timely manner.

About you

  • Ideally, you will have an environmental or civil engineering degree or equivalent approved professional qualification in flood risk management or construction (such as a CIWEM accredited BSc /Post Graduate qualification)
  • A background in civil engineering – whether public or private sector, and experience in highways engineering, including street furniture capital projects, roads, bridges, and maintenance works.
  • Able to work both independently and as part of a team, you will be used to preparing and presenting reports associated with your work to the appropriate committees and key stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of Flood and Water Management Act 2010, Land Drainage Act 1991, flood risk assessment and sustainable drainage systems (SuDS).
  • Experience of land drainage maintenance
  • A valid UK driving licence and have a vehicle insured for business use
  • Prepared to undertake work outside the normal office hours from time to time
  • Able to work on site
